Finally

I finally got some things done this weekend. I got all of the old winter clothes out of Zachary and Savanna's rooms, got summer clothes put away, removed some toys from their rooms and the spare room, and cleaned the spare room. I still have lots to do but I feel better that I got a good start.

Baby Shower

On Saturday, me and Hanley & Savanna went to my aunt's house for my cousins-wife's baby shower. She wasn't due until late May but she had the baby 6 weeks early. It was fun. I made a fleece blanket and gave her an outfit and some bath toys.

It's always fun to see family and to visit with everyone and the kids had fun playing. I got a flower as a prize and it had one stem that was growing 2 flowers on it. It looked like an owls face.

Dentist

Hanley & Zachary had a dentist appointment scheduled for Friday. I have taken Zachary 4 times and he will NOT let them look in his mouth. One time he stood there and let the dentist count his teeth. But he usually throws a fit and won't sit in the chair. I told Paul that maybe he could take them to see if Zachary would be any different. When they got home he said that Zachary did everything. He sat in the chair by himself, got the x-rays and got his teeth cleaned. Paul said he cried a little bit but realized it was all OK and nothing was going to hurt.

After all this time of not going to the dentist, and he is the worst about brushing his teeth, I figured he'd have a mouth full of cavities. He only had 2. None would be better, but that is great considering his first visit where he cooperated. I think I'll have Paul take them to the next visit too, to get cavities filled. Hopefully that one will go OK.

Bugars

Savanna cracks me up. This is our conversation the other day when I saw Savanna picking her nose.

Me: Don't do that
Savanna (just looking at me)
Me: Do not put that in your mouth
Savanna: That is gross
Me: Yea, that is really gross
Savanna: But bugars do's taste good

Yuck!

Flashback Friday

A few pictures of Hanley when she was little, about 3.

BFF

Savanna hugged me yesterday and said "you are my beeeeeessssst friend... ever".

"I looked out the window and what did I see?

Snow falling on the popcorn popping on the apricot tree." I could not believe there was snow this morning. Not a lot, and it didn't stick to the roads. I'm so ready for spring I was not excited to see this.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star....

Savanna was being silly this morning and I got her to sing for the camera.

Birthday Cake

Sunday was my birthday. Paul and the kids went and got a cake on Friday. Of course with our kids you can't tell them anything until the day of something. That's all they will talk about. So once they knew that cake was there they just had to have it. So Friday night after dinner Zachary kept talking about the cake and the 'fire on the cake'. He found 1 candle in the drawer so we put it on the cake and they sang 'Happy Birthday' to me. The kids made me a card. (I'm not sure why they are so bright, my scanner must have changed to some weird settings).

"Yes we do"

On Saturday night my parents and my brothers family came up and we ate with them at Outback Steakhouse. Zachary and Savanna started pretend burping. I said "We don't do that". Savanna looks at me and said "Yes we do!". It was so funny. I told her that we at least don't do it at a restaurant. I guess I shouldn't let them get away with it at home.

Makeup

Last night I walked in to the bathroom and Savanna was in there. She hurried and covered her eyes. I noticed she had a lip liner pencil in her hand. I asked her what she was doing. She kept her eyes covered and said "nothing!". I told her to move her hands. Her eyebrows were covered in lip liner. My first instinct was to get mad at her, then figured it was no big deal. I told her to go downstairs and show dad. She cried and said "I don't want to be in trouble". I told her she wasn't in trouble but I wanted her to show her dad (and I wanted to get a picture of it). I told Paul that she didn't want to be in trouble. So he was really nice to her and kept telling her she looked beautiful.

Organizing

I'm really in the mood to get some organizing done but don't seem to ever have enough time. I wish I had an entire week off of work and could just get busy with all the things I want to do. I did get some new shelves put together last night for a closet that I put bathroom supplies in. Now everything is visible and not in a big bucket where I have to dig through.

We have a spare bedroom and it also doubles as my sewing room, exercise room, stamp room, and extra toys. Needless to say it's where little things get 'put just for now'. But it is so in need of some cleaning out and organization. It is starting to haunt me. It's all I think about and it's driving me nuts. Maybe this weekend I can at least get started. It's not going to be something that's done in an hour or so. I should try to spend at least a 1/2 hour every day doing something in there.

I got all of the kids summer clothes out and now I need to get all of their winter stuff either put away if they can wear it next year, or given away. Ahhh... I just need some time.

Turn it up!

When we are in the car I am always hearing "turn it up", or "I don't like this song", or "Yea, this one". My kids love music and it's funny to hear them singing songs in the car.

Oh that kid...

Savanna is just too funny. Last night when I was putting her in bed I said "good night sugar bugar". She said "good night sugar (pause while thinking) momma".

You have to stay little...

Last night when I was laying by Savanna getting her ready to go to sleep, I told her that she was getting too big. There was a picture on her dresser of when she had just turned 2. I showed it to her and told her that she was littler then, and that she needed to stay little. She said "I don't wanna stay little, I love being bigger". I said "No, you have to stay little". Then when Paul came in the room she said to him "I hav-a stay little". It was so funny. She must have really thought that since I said that, she had to do it. I said "you really can't stay little, even though I want you to". She says the cutest things.

Park

I told the kids Friday morning that I would take them to the park sometime over the weekend. Friday & Saturday were busy so we didn't make it. Sunday afternoon we went to Paul's parents and it was 6:00 by the time we left. Zachary still kept asking about the park. I had to take them even though it was late. I had promised and he was looking forward to it all weekend. We went for about 40 minutes. They had fun. Paul came and played basketball with Hanley. Zachary and Savanna had a blast on the slides (still in their church clothes).

Hotdogs and "Smarshmallows"

We roasted hotdogs and marshmallows on Friday night. The kids thought it was so fun and I didn't have to make dinner. It was perfect.

More Yard Work

I took last Friday off and we did some more yardwork. When we moved in 6 years ago it was so overgrown. There were so many evergreen bushes that were out of control. We pulled all of those out the first & second years. The section above the rocks was dirt and we put sod there a couple years ago. We've had loads and loads of tree trimmings. It will be much less maintenance. The evergreen bushes that were there totally covered up the rocks. None of them were visible under the bushes. We've had so many neighbors tell us 'we never knew there were rocks here'. I think we're just about done with the front yard.

The dirt part in this picture is now filled in with sod all the way up to the rocks.
Hanley got 'poop-scopping' duty on Friday cause when I got home from work on Thursday she was playing and hadn't done her chores. Actually, it was only to empty the garbages and I'd been reminding her for 3 days to do it. She wasn't very happy about me taking her picture.

Health Testing

Today was the Health Testing at my work. They do it every year and I get a discount on insurance by doing it. All they do is draw blood and send it off to get cholesterol levels and glucose levels. Once the results come back they test body fat and blood pressure. This year the spouses could participate so Paul came to get his blood drawn too. He was definitely not excited about it but once it was over he said it wasn't bad. We took Hanley and Savanna to the babysitter but Zachary insisted on going with Dad so we let him come. He watched me get my blood drawn. I turn my head and don't watch any of it. He was looking at me and when she stuck the needle in his eyes got big and he said 'Oh!!'. Then as the blood filled the tube he said "mom, look at that'. I didn't look. He didn't seem bothered at all. He seems to love stuff like that. A while back there was a marathon of the Untold Stories of the ER and we watched a bunch of them. The next day he asked to watch the 'doctor show'.

Zachary - another surgery

I haven't taken Zachary back to the eye doctor for a while. We've been focusing on his ears and him wearing his hearing aids. But I finally took him back and they want to do another surgery on his eyes. The last one they did fixed the side turn of his head and this one should fix it so that he looks straight ahead to see best. Currently he tilts his head up to look at things, especially things far away. I hate the thought of another surgery, but hopefully this will be it. I think it'll be better to get this fixed before he starts Kindergarten. My poor little guy.

Ring

I bent a prong on my wedding ring yesterday. I got up to hit the snooze button and when I laid back in bed I rolled over and scraped it on the headboard. Paul asked if I was ok and I said 'yes, but I don't think my ring is'. I could feel it in the dark that it was bent. I hate when I hit it on things, I need to be more careful with it.

Cousins

I lined up the kids from oldest to youngest before we left my parents yesterday. I told Kathy that we should do this every time they get together. Then over time we can see how they change together. They all still had pajamas on and no hair had been combed, but hey, that's a relaxing Easter day.

Easter Morning

The kids were so excited to see their Easter baskets. The Easter Bunny kept the candy to a minimum and put a few more little toys in the baskets.

Another Egg Hunt

We had another Egg Hunt at my parent's house on Saturday afternoon. I had been filling up eggs with a little candy and some change. When I was done and came out to the kitchen, my dad had been filling up eggs with change too. So there were lots of eggs. The kids got mostly money and Hanley said 'where's all the candy'. We figured they'd be happy with money instead. Then my dad put a dollar in six eggs to call the kids could get a dollar too.

They got some fake teeth that were brown and yucky. They all loved the gross teeth.

The Tooth

When we got to Delta on Saturday my nephew Trenton was showing us his loose tooth. It was sooo loose, it was just hanging on by a thread. He kept saying 'don't pull it out'. I told him that I just wanted to feel it to see how loose it was. I put my finger on it and pulled it forward. He said 'owwww'. Then grabbed it, it was out. I hope he wasn't mad, it bled a lot. But I think he was happy to finally have it out.

Easter Egg Hunt

There was an Easter Egg Hunt at the park Friday night. I took the kids. They were so excited. While we were waiting for it to start, I kept telling Zachary and Savanna to get as much as they could. To not open the eggs out there, to just grab as many as they could and put them in their baskets. There weren't tons of kids, so I thought they'd do great. They both could have completely filled their baskets, but they just kinda walked around looking at everything on the ground. Zachary was running around being silly. I was yelling 'pick them up!!!' They loved every minute of it. Hanley was bummed cause she had only been picking up some rulers that were on the ground and someone grabbed them out of her basket. I'll have to prepare them next year to be more aggressive. I didn't get a picture of Hanley, she was at the other end of the park with the older kids.

Snow for April's Fools Day?

I really was not expecting to be woke up this morning to the sound and lights of the snow plow driving by. I got up and looked outside and there was about 6 inches of snow. Come on! It's April 1st. I know it's not totally out of the ordinary to get snow in April, but I am so ready for spring.

The Lost Key

Yesterday morning when I went to leave for work I could not find the key to my van. I always put it in the same pocket in my purse. It's the only key I have and the hook is broken so I can't hook it onto a key chain. And I can't just go get it copied cause it's the key with the lock/unlock/alarm all on the key, so it's like $150 to get a new one. I searched and searched the pockets on my purse. Finally I just ended up driving one of our other cars.

When I got home Paul and I kept asking the kids who took it, cause Zachary had been in my purse that morning stealing gum. Him and Savanna kept blaming each other. I finally dumped out the side of my purse that I always put it in just to make sure I didn't miss it amongst all the other stuff in there. Still no key. I looked in the other side, that I had also looked in about 5 times that morning, and there it is. The only thing in that other pocket was lotion, a nail file and floss. How could I have missed it? Oh well, I'm just glad it's not actually lost. I really hate the feeling of losing keys.

Hanley's Spring Pictures

Hanley had her Spring pictures taken a few weeks ago. The morning of the pictures I had totally forgotten it was the day. We were waiting in the car for Hanley and she pulled all of the papers out of her backpack and saw the reminder. She was defintely not ready for pictures. She had on a baseball t-shirt and her hair in a pony tail. She came to the door and reminded me, almost crying. I told her to find a nice shirt and I would take Zachary and Savanna to Karen's and be right back to help her with her hair. I'm glad she realized it before we left so she didn't make it to school and call me at work crying. They turned out cute.
