Bee of the Week

Savanna got to be Bee of the Week last week in her class. We had to put things on her bee that told about what she liked. I went into her class and told them all about her and read them her favorite book, Hurry, Hurry. It was a book I had when I was little and loved it. When I went in, there was a cute little skeleton drawing hanging on the wall. Such a good little artist.

Savanna's Kindergarten Picture

Savanna's school picture turned out darling. The first two years that I took her to the school to get her pictures taken she cried and wouldn't smile. Last year and this year she wanted to make sure she smiled, because she didn't want me and Paul to have pictures of her sad.

Young Women in Excellence

Hanley made a baby blanket for her one of her Personal Progress projects and displayed it at Young Women in Excellence on Sunday night.

Tired

At about 8:45 Saturday night, Savanna asked me when she should go to bed. I told her that we'd get ready soon. In about five minutes, she was sound asleep on the chair.

Breakfast Date

Paul and Zachary went to do some work in a house and Hanley was over at a friends house, so me and Savanna went to breakfast. She said "We are hanging out, huh?" She thought it was fun to hang out with mom.

Reading

They couldn't stop laughing and making up other stories from what the book was actually talking about, but at least they got their reading done.

Hanley's Choir Concert

Hanley had her first choir concert last night. It was fun to watch her sing the songs she's been talking about. Zachary didnt' want to go at first but had fun once he was there. And Aunt Debbie came to watch too, so him and Savanna each had to sit by her.

Spoiled Dogs

We have two completely spoiled dogs. They drive me nuts sometimes but they are part of the family and we love them.

Hanley's School Picture

Hanley got retake pictures because she didn't like the first one and she had a really unatural smile. Her retakes turned out gorgeous.

Kids Having Fun

Me and the kids went to my parents house for the weekend. I got my hair colored and Hanley was dying (get it? dye-ing) to get her hair colored. I didn't want anything too crazy. It turned out really cute and she LOVES it. The kids have so much fun playing with their cousins.

Fall Fesitval

Savanna's Kindergarten had a Fall Festival today. It was with all the kids from the AM/PM from both Kindergarten teachers. Me and another mom was in charge of the Sunflower Cookies station. We talked about sunflowers and the kids got to each try a sunflower seed. Then they got to put yellow icing and brown sprinkles on a cookie and eat it. It was an easy station because we didn't have to talk the entire time. The kids all got to decorate a pumpkin in one of the other stations. Since I was in one room the whole time, I am not sure what else they did.

When I grow up....

On Saturday-
Savanna: When I grow up I want to be a doctor.... or a singer
Paul: Well, we better get you enrolled in some voice lessons because we can't afford medical school.

Tomorrow the kids get to dress up as what they want to be when they are older and this morning she said she wants to wear doctor clothes. I'll have to see if I can find some children size scrubs for her to wear.

Pumpkins

We bought a couple pumpkins at the store. Savanna decorated hers with several face stickers. Zachary wanted to do more than just put stickers on his. So we spray painted it black, then added the stickers. I think it looks really neat.

Zachary's Science Project

Zachary had a science project to do in school last week. He wanted to do a volcano but someone had already done that so we chose something else. He did an experiment called 'magic ice'. He filled a glass all the way to the top with water then placed an ice cube in it. He laid a string across the ice cube and put some salt on it. The class counted to 20. Then he was able to lift the ice out of the cup with the string. The salt melted the ice just enough to make the string stick to it.

I Love Chicken!

We were driving to the hardware store and saw guys unloading two dead pigs from a truck and taking them into a restaurant. The kids thought it was awesome, but then Savanna said "oh, those poor pigs." I said "well you like bacon, and ham, right? Those come from pigs." She said "hmm...". Then later she was eating some chicken and said "I LOVE chicken... does it come from a pig?"

Notes

When I was cleaning out my van the other day I found a couple notes that Hanley had written to me. She had stuck them in the car but in places that I couldn't see, until I cleaned it out. She's so sweet and I love to find cute little notes like this.

Christmas

I really can't believe it's already October. The last few years I have felt so behind when the holidays roll around, that I'm determined to be ready early. I have a Christmas list started already and have been purchasing a few things. I love Christmas, but when I'm not prepared then I am stressed and don't enjoy it as much. Where has this year gone?

Teddy Bear Picnic

Today Savanna was having a Teddy Bear Picnic at school. She got to take her teddy bear and a snack for her and the bear to share. She was super excited all morning. Then when I tried to take a picture of her, Zachary kept looking at her. And if you can remember being five, and having someone look at you, you know it can make you really sad.

Scary Hoodie

For a few weeks now Zachary has been telling me that a couple of kids in his class have skeleton hoodies. And he wants one! So, I gave in and got him one. It zips up all the way to the front and has net eye holes and a mouth hole.

Andy and Rachael's Wedding

My cousin Andy got married last Saturday. Me and the kids went up to the wedding. It was at a beautiful place in Draper.

Parents and Pastries

I took Savanna and Zachary to their Parents and Pastries this morning. It took so long for Zachary to finally smile, that once he did, Savanna was mad and kept saying "I already smiled" that this is the only picture I could get. And I think she was mad that she couldn't have another doughnut.

Heartbreak

Last week Paige's boyfriend was killed in a motorcycle accident. They had been dating on and off for almost 5 years, but mostly on. Even when they weren't officially together they were still best friends. He was gone to Texas for the summer working and when he got back they decided to get married. I feel so bad for her. It's heartbreaking to know that she is now without the future she thought she'd have.
